Letter of impending
war was outrageous
I have been reading letters to the editor in reference to an impending war with Iraq and Kathie and John Gourlays’ letter was finally enough to put me over the top.
In their letter, they arrogantly tried to rewrite scripture. In their new and improved version of Abraham and God’s conversations pertaining to Sodom, they substituted Abraham with George, and he and God conversed about saving Baghdad.
There was, of course, nothing factual in the letter, but that seemed irrelevant. Their focus was on implying that President Bush has a callous hatred for the people of Baghdad and will only be satisfied with killing them.
To portray President Bush as the evil entity in this situation is mind boggling. Here is another rewrite, but this one is of the Gourlays’ letter with a few facts interjected.
Yahweh (God) speaking with President Bush:
George (some refer to him as President Bush) was in Yahweh’s presence. Yahweh stepped forward and said, "Will you really stand by and do nothing as my innocents are tortured and murdered? Will you, the leader of the free world, not take it upon yourself to bring down evil incarnate?"
The evil, who is Saddam Hussein, presides over the Revolutionary Command Council in Iraq. He controls all security services, is the head of state, head of the government, head of the armed forces and is the leader of the only political party in Iraq.
"You know the degradation and torture he perpetrates, with no one to stop him, George. Will you do nothing? Will you stand by, with the rest of the world, as millions (between 3 and 4) have fled their homeland, to escape the madman?
"Others have not been so lucky, George. Too many women to name have been tortured and/or murdered by men who have only to say their honor has been besmirched.
"The torture of children is commonly practiced to ensure the parents tow the party line. Anyone who does not please Saddam Hussein can expect one of many tortures, which include eyes being gouged out, electric drills boring into their body, electric shock, rape, acid baths, and any other
horror that a sick mind can dream up.
"Thousands and thousands of his own people have been murdered. Now, he seeks nuclear power to take his madness to the world at large.
"He is building his weapons in places you will never discover, George. Those places include railway cars, semi-trucks, basements of businesses.
"What will you do, George? Listen to those who try to make this a political issue for their own liberal agenda, or will you do what is right? The world is waiting."
George said, "Yahweh, I will accept the burden. I will do my best to protect my country and the world as I have sworn to do. I will not respond to what I think will make me popular in opinion polls. I will not let liberals, who try to obfuscate the issues, sway me.
"I will hold Saddam Hussein accountable and deliver his people and the world from the threat of nuclear disaster."
When he had finished talking to George, Yahweh went away and George returned home to do what was right.
Iraqis have become the second largest group of refugees in the world. They top the list of asylum seekers to the United Kingdom. Those that can run, do. The people of Iraq pray for the troops of the world to roll into Baghdad and deliver them.
