Seiko to plead guilty

DEARBORN — A former ordinance officer charged in the death of a motorist is expected to plead guilty to negligent homicide.

Agron Seiko, 20, was driving at high speeds in a marked city ordinance vehicle on Feb. 12 when he struck a Canton man’s Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of Rotunda and Military.

William Vesper Owen IV, 35, was killed instantly.

Seiko was charged with manslaughter following an investigation by the Michigan State Police.

Dearborn police asserted that Seiko was attempting to join officers involved in a nearby pursuit.

Ordinance officers are not typically a part of high-speed chases, according to departmental policy.

Witnesses said that Seiko’s vehicle had lights but not a siren activated when he drove through a red light at the intersection.

At Seiko’s preliminary examination before Judge William Hultgren on Friday morning, attorneys for the defense and the prosecution said that Seiko would plead guilty to negligent homicide.

The penalty for negligent homicide, said Seiko’s attorney Thomas Flood, can be up to two years, but Flood thought that Seiko’s sentencing would probably be on "probationary guidelines."

Flood said that Seiko plans to finish college and pursue a career in law enforcement.
